Terms of Service

Effective date: October 24, 2026

The short version: Clarity estimates whether content was made by AI. Results are probabilities and can be wrong, so never use them as the only basis for a decision about someone. Pro starts with a 7-day free trial that becomes a paid subscription ($9.99/month) unless you cancel before it ends. You can cancel anytime from your account. This summary is not a substitute for the full terms below.

1. Who we are and agreement to these terms

Clarity (the "Service") is operated by Pearson Phillips ("we", "us", "our"), Austin, Texas, USA. By using the Service, creating an account, or starting a subscription, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live, if higher) to use the Service, and at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to purchase a subscription.

3. What the Service does, and its limits

The Service uses machine-learning models and file metadata analysis to estimate the likelihood that text or images were generated or edited by artificial intelligence. You acknowledge and agree that:

4. Accounts and security

You may use free text checks without an account. To use Pro you must create an account with accurate information, either with an email and password or through a third-party sign-in provider (such as Google, Apple, Microsoft or Facebook). You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use. You may sign out of all devices from your account menu at any time.

5. Plans, free trial, billing and automatic renewal

5.1 Free plan

The free plan lets you check pasted text of up to 300 words, subject to reasonable daily usage limits. Image checks, document uploads, passage highlights and longer texts require Pro. We may change free plan features and limits at any time.

5.2 Free trial

Your first Pro subscription may begin with a free trial of 7 days. A valid payment method is required to start the trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription and your payment method will be charged the then-current subscription fee ($9.99/month, plus any applicable taxes) on the day the trial ends. The date of the first charge is shown before you confirm. Free trials are limited to one per person and per payment method; we may refuse or end a trial we reasonably believe is being abused.

5.3 Automatic renewal

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and we will charge your payment method the then-current fee each period, until you cancel. By starting a subscription you authorize these recurring charges.

5.4 How to cancel

You can cancel at any time online: open the account menu, select "Manage billing and subscription", and cancel. If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be charged. If you cancel after a paid period has started, you keep Pro access until the end of that period and will not be charged again. You may also cancel by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your account also cancels your subscription immediately.

5.5 Refunds

Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods or unused features. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 30 days at [email protected] and we will review your request in good faith. Nothing in these terms limits any refund or cancellation rights you have under applicable consumer law, including any statutory right to withdraw from a purchase.

5.6 Price changes, taxes and failed payments

We may change subscription prices. We will give you reasonable advance notice of any price change, and it will take effect at the start of your next billing period after the notice; you may cancel before then. Prices may not include taxes, which you are responsible for where applicable. If a payment fails, we may retry the charge and may suspend Pro features until payment succeeds.

5.7 Payment processing

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never see or store your full card number. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.

6. Your content

You keep all rights to the text, documents and images you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, temporary license to process Your Content solely to provide the Service to you. We analyze Your Content in memory and do not store it, sell it, or use it to train models. For plagiarism and fact checks, short excerpts of Your Content are sent as search queries to search providers to find sources, as described in our Privacy Policy. You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that doing so does not violate any law or anyone else's rights.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.

8. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text and branding, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service under these terms. The Service uses third-party open-source models and software under their respective licenses. Product and company names mentioned on the Service are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe what the Service can detect; no affiliation or endorsement is implied.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, including our hosting provider, Stripe for payments, and optional sign-in providers (Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook). We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them is governed by their terms.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service and all results are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any result will be accurate or reliable.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our affiliates, officers, employees and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or reputation, or for any decision made or action taken based on results from the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) 50 US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

12. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, Your Content, your violation of these terms, or any decision you make based on results from the Service.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the account menu. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we terminate your paid subscription without cause, we will refund the unused portion of any prepaid fees. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

14. Changes to the Service and these terms

We may update the Service and these terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or on the Service before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them; if you do not agree, you may cancel and stop using the Service.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at [email protected]; we will do the same. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in the State of Texas, USA, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring claims in your local courts. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you also benefit from the mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence.

16. General

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
